Some Massachusetts Quiltmakers

Susan Lorinda Brigham (Munroe) Shepherd is believed to be the maker of the c. 1840 King David’s Crown quilt on our home page.
Henrietta Bryan Lambie (c. 1845-1932) of Northampton, made her crazy quilt in memory of her two little daughters, Ethel and Emily Mary, who both died in 1884.  Read an essay about her quilts on our Sample Essays page.
Celina Rhodier Balise (1872-1941), was of French-Canadian heritage and lived in Hadley.  She made quilts as wedding gifts for all of her children.
Addie Bailey (1912-1993), originally from Mississppi, came to Springfield, Massachusetts around 1950.
